Kayla Allen Kingston 17’s Newest Starlet
By: Jennifer Menster
Kayla Allen is one of Canada’s finest vocalists representing Reggae and Dancehall with a positive splash of Pop and the right amount of addiction for her good music.
The rising starlet hails from the Montreal region and is managed by sound system stalwarts Little Thunder Sound who happens to be her family. Kayla’s recent singles “Family Prayer” and “Unruly Wine” are opposite enough to show diversity and unified enough to showcase her unmistakable talent. Kayla is Canada’s newest starlet who has all the markings of success in the leagues of Rihanna, Beyonce and Mary J. Blige.
Tall shoes to fill? Yes, they are, and she can do it. Growing up in a musical family (her father is co-owner of Little Thunder Sound) Kayla is blessed with a pre-destined mark for greatness. Her first on-stage experiences saw her perform regularly at High School talent shows. She honed her stage presence, grew comfortable performing outside the familiar high school clique and now delivers music the world over is attracted to.

Kayla’s first foray into music came in 2016 when her father produced the Scroogie Tropics Riddim. He asked her to voice on it alongside Lukie D, Lutan Fyah, Sizzla, Turbulence and Kaisha Lee. The result was the song “Not Giving Up” which received radio play in key markets of Canada, Jamaica and the U.K. Kayla acknowledged “Reggae and Dancehall has always been a part of me and the fact that I was put on this riddim with highly respected Reggae artists is an opportunity I am more than grateful for.”
