Skillibeng’s ‘Crocodile Teeth’ LP Launch

Eastsyde Records recording artist and Dancehall star Skillibeng launched the release of his LP ‘Crocodile Teeth’ on Friday October 15th, 2021 with 1500 of his fans and special guests at the headquarters of Johnny Wonder Digital Distribution in Kingston, Jamaica.

Taking to the stage to perform for the capacity audience, Skillibeng presented songs from his album – his performance lasted 1 hour which was accented by performances by fellow stars Jahvillani, singer Davianah (featured on track 2 “Sweeten Your Pain”}, 10 Tik and Jah Frass; Bishop Escobar, DJ Mac and DJ Antsman kept patrons engaged before and after Skilli’s performance.  The ‘Crocodile Teeth’ LP launch was the first time some locally based fans got to see Skillibeng perform.

Speaking exclusively to L3 Magazine Skillibeng said “yuh know how it go … to launch my album I had to perform – mek the fans feel the energy live.  It was nice.”  He continued “some people thought I would be a one-hit wonder” because of how mih start, but music is my passion – dem nuh see nuttin yet.”

Johnny Wonder, CEO of Johnny Wonder Digital Distribution was camera shy at the event, but the proud industry executive shared “Skilli’s talent has taken the world by storm.  Jamaica and the Caribbean Diaspora loves him, and other genres love him too.  Some of the Rap features on this album include Bobby Shmurda, Stefflon Don, Rich The Kid and Lil Zack.  These are some of the hottest stars and they are on this album.  Skilli debuted at #2 on the iTunes Reggae Album chart and we are just beginning.”

Held at the entertainment space behind Johnny Wonder Digital Distribution offices, host Yanique ‘Curvy’ Diva made sure to keep guests updated on the order of activities.  Skilli earned forwards when he performed the songs “Brik Pon Brik,” “Crocodile Teeth” and “Piana.”  He added “Top Ranking” as brawta which revved the crowd to sing with the star.

During the cake-cutting ceremony (decorated with the ‘Crocodile Teeth’ album cover), super fan Denisha shared her pride for the artist.  “To see where Skilli ah come from to where he is now this is a proud moment.  All of Jamaica should support him.  talent ova argument” she said.

Internationally, Rap super star Drake took to IG to repost his favorite track “Beethoven.” Other previously released favorites that have been posted by fans are “50 Bag,” “Coco Tea” and “Bin Laden.”  From the album, fans are gravitating to “Piana” “Rocket Launcher” and “Dream.”  The event began at 6pm and ended at 10pm in observance with Jamaica’s curfew restrictions.

Emelio ‘Melio Sounds’ Lynch is a Billboard certified producer who worked with Skillibeng on his singles “Torpedo” and “Rose That Grew From Concrete.”  Natasha Von Castle is a Toronto-based multi-platform journalist who covers Reggae and Dancehall.
